I’ve always had Apple computers. The first computer we ever had in the home was an Apple IIe. It was something that had been assigned to my mom’s classroom, and she got to take it home for the summer. It had one of those green monochromatic screens, and was pretty much useless except for a couple of games with sophistication on par with the Atari. The first computer that we actually owned that was a permanent resident in our home was an Apple LCII. We had that thing when I was in middle school, and partly through high school. It had a color monitor, and that’s about all I remember about it. It was mostly just a word-processing machine. The next one we owned was a 6116. It was one of those pancake designs that the monitor sat on top of. I don’t remember it lasting very long until the logic board fried on it. It was replaced with a 6400/200 which was the first tower we had, and possibly the first computer that I got online with. I don’t recall having internet on the 6116, so it was probably the 6400 that I had AOL and all of that good stuff. I don’t think I finally got a badass 56K modem until I moved to Chicago. My next mac was a 400mhz AGP G4. This was when Apple started to pay attention to case design and become more of an aesthetic product. I got a few years out of that machine, but got suckered into the iMac G5. That thing was a major lemon, and had all sorts of display issues. Apple eventually replaced it with an Intel iMac. That computer lasted me for a little while until I started doing a lot of photo editing, which got me to the MacPro 2 x 2.8Ghz quad core I currently use. I’ve had it since early 2008, and I haven’t felt the urge to upgrade yet. I might put one of those solid state drives in it eventually. Along the way I’ve also had 3 laptops. An iBook G4, an Intel Macbook, and a 17″ 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo MacbookPro. I’ve also owned a number of iPods, and two different iPhones. Except for work computers at various jobs, I’ve been a lifelong Apple user. I wouldn’t consider myself a fanatic, it’s just what is easiest for me.
The photo by the way, was from an engagement session in Chicago. It was the first session I purposely scheduled partly at night to do something different. We were passing by the Apple store on Michigan Ave and I had my couple stand in front of the backlit logo.
